Schools say they are failing, but eager to start a new year


The dreaded failing school letter went out last week to Goldendale families, as it did for nearly all schools in Washington. With it was an explanation from Superintendent Mark Heid who left no doubt about his feelings on the issue. In his introduction to the letter, Heid said “This is based on very poor legislation passed in the early nineties that was supposed to be reauthorized for the past several years however, our legislators have not gotten around to doing so. In this legislation, it was their belief that schools were failing their students so the legislators put together a plan that would prove they were right.”
