State moves to trump federal law

Attorney General says he believes Washington city’s federal preemption argument threatens to destroy marijuana Initiative 502


In a move that could instantly wipe out I-502 and its legalization of recreational marijuana—even as growers and one retail shop in Klickitat County have been gearing up to legally provide the plant—the city of Fife, Wash., has filed suit in Pierce County Superior Court claiming the initiative is invalid because it violates federal law.

Washington State, in the form of the Attorney General’s office, has joined the legal battle, siding with it calls the will of the people of Washington.
