Significance of Eel Trail shared on Military Road tour


“It’s a project that keeps on giving” was a remark made by a board member of the Klickitat County Historical Society (KCHS). Two busloads of people from across the region enjoyed a beautiful late summer day touring the ancient Eel Trail across the Valley of the Little Klickitat. It’s a fascinating fact that the soldiers who fought the first battle of the 1855-58 “Indian Wars” followed that ancient trail across the valley and over the Simcoes to what is now known as Toppenish Creek where they met over a thousand of Kimiakin’s warriors and fought that first battle.
