Gannon fourth at Sorosis Park in big showing for small school

TEAM EFFORT: Bickleton has a close-knit group of runners, seeking a team trip to the State cross-country meet. The team was fifth at The Dalles on Friday against top competition. From left are Joseph Cummings, Andrew Gannon, Troy Roberts, Cody Allenton and Joey Cardenas.

Bickleton runners put up a strong performance against quality competition at the Bridgette Nelson Invitational cross country meet at Sorosis Park in The Dalles, Friday. It was a festive atmosphere with plenty of teams and families and middle school as well as high school runners on hand on a sunny day.

Andrew Gannon moved ahead of teammate Troy Roberts about halfway through the race as the duo battled among the top 10 runners. Gannon came on strong through the final hilly portion of the race and sprinted down the final chute to take fourth place in a time of 18:36. Roberts wasn't far behind at 19:01, good enough for 11th place.
