Opposing gun bills headed for shoot-out with voters over key issues


One of two major initiatives on the ballot next month has a prosaic title, called simply “Initiative Measure No. 594” (I-594). Behind its plaintive rhetoric lies a campaign pot of multiple millions of dollars from big names such as Bill Gates, Paul Allen, and Steve Ballmer, among others. It begins innocuously, stating the obvious: “There is broad consensus that felons, persons convicted of domestic violence crimes, and persons dangerously mentally ill as determined by a court should not be eligible to possess guns for public safety reasons.”
