Spartans run around and through Timberwolf defense for upset win

Ricky Esqueda led a crushing running attack as Granger surprised Goldendale 21-6 for their first win of the season. Esqueda carried the ball 27 times for 178 yards, showing quick bursts through gaping holes in the Timberwolf line. The Spartans had 261 yards on 51 rushes and just 17 on six passes.

While the Spartans took control of the line and ran the clock, they also forced Goldendale to rely more on their passing game. Goldendale Coach Chris Hill felt the urgency of making the best of their opportunities as the Spartans ran the clock. "We didn't have the ball much," said Hill. "They were more physical and we didn't tackle well."
