50 Years Ago - October 15, 1964

Goldendale’s O. K. tread rubber plant now employs 21 persons and is working the machinery 24 hours a day, around the clock, Manager Howard Trollier announced last week. Production rate in recent months has shown an approximate 35 percent increase, the manager stated. Employment has increased over 50 percent from the original 13 employees working at beginning of operations last January.

75 Years Ago - October 12, 1939

Old age assistance absorbs 63 per cent of the Klickitat County Social Security grant for the current quarter ending Dec. 31, E. E. Ames, welfare administrator announced this week. The county’s total budget for the quarter is $24,752. Of this amount $16,381 is for old age assistance. Second largest item is $3,571 for aid to dependent children. Private hospitalization accounts for $1,083. Other smaller amounts were also listed.

100 Years Ago - October 8, 1914

N. B. Brooks left early Sunday morning for Portland where he will spent a few days the forepart of the week on business. He will buy the glass for the new bank building while in the city.

125 Years Ago - October 10, 1889

Upon going through the new court house the forepart of the week, which is now receiving the plastering, we were surprised to see that no provision had been made for ventilation worthy of mention anywhere. There are no transoms over any of the office doors, leading into the main hall and therefore the only chance for ventilation is to either open the door or an outside window.
