Observatory open special hours Thursday for solar eclipse

Shadows: Solar Eclipse begins at 1:41 p.m. on Thursday, and ends at 4:25 p.m.

There is a partial Solar Eclipse coming up this Thursday, Oct. 23. Ordinarily, the Observatory is closed on Thursdays at this time of year, but will be open special hours from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Eclipse begins at 1:41 p.m. and reaches maximum coverage (50 percent) at 2:56 p.m. The eclipse ends at 4:25 p.m.

Solar observation is available whenever the Sun is out.

October 2014 evening presentations will include the possible viewing of planet Uranus, various multiple-star systems, and deep-sky objects including a Planetary Nebulae, Globular Star Cluster, and the Andromeda Galaxy.
