Rising to debut at State

WOLF RUNNING AHEAD OF THE PACK: Dillon Rising, center, joined three other runners to break away from the pack in the early going of the 5k race at Apple Ridge.

Dillon Rising ran a great qualifying race to become one of two freshmen to finish in the top 10 at the District 5, 1A cross country meet at Apple Ridge, last week. Rising placed third for Goldendale and Silver Beltran, of Royal was 10th. They are the only freshman boys from the District meet that earned the right to advance to the State meet, this Saturday in Pasco.

Rising never budged from the top four after he and a small group sprinted to a short lead through the first quarter-mile of the race. A pair of Royal runners ran their best 3-mile races of the year to finish ahead of Rising, who crossed the finish line in a time of 16-minutes, 47.7-seconds, just 0.3 seconds behind the second p...
