Goldendale puts girls AAU team on the court in the valley

SHOCK AND AWE: Goldendale is fielding a girls basketball team in the fall AAU Yakima Valley league this year. Goldendale's Shock and Awe, an AAU basketball team of girls from the fourth and fifth grades, evened their record at 1-1 with a win over Burbank Townsend, 27-6 last Saturday. The girls are coached by Preston Dahl and Jennifer Neil.

Shock and Awe played in a Veterans Day tournament in Toppenish and will take on East Valley Red on Nov. 15.

Other games scheduled for the season are the Toppenish Wildcats on Nov. 22, Benton City on Dec. 6 and Naches Lady Rangers on Dec. 13.

The girls have played during the summer and practice twice a week. In addition to the fun and competition, the team is building skills that will help make the girls competitive in league play by the time they reach high sc...
