Looking Back

December 3, 2014

50 Years Ago - December 3, 1964

• Approximately 20 ski enthusiasts opened the winter’s skiing program Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Satus ski area according to Ron Rombalski, a member of the local Jaycees who are sponsoring the skiing as one of their community projects.

75 Years Ago - November 30, 1938

• One of the finest Hereford bull calves ever brought into the Klickitat Valley was purchased this week by Arthur Schuster, Goldendale Future Farmer club member. Schuster, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Schuster of Pheasant Valley, purchased the animal from the Reese Brown stock farms at Brownstown.

100 Years Ago - December 5, 1914

• Charles and Albert Jensen, of the Bickleton section, have just completed hauling their crop of 6,346 sacks of wheat to Roosevelt. They started with 8-horse teams and 3 wagons each, but later dropped one. The first load was hauled on August 11th.

125 Years Ago - December 5, 1889

• Work of grading the courthouse yard has been commenced by H. P. Jackson, who took the job for $136.

• The County Commissioners should cause a bulletin board to be put up in the courthouse upon which to put notices. It looks decidedly bad to see a notice pasted upon the plastered walls. Besides such a procedure is bound to deface the walls.
