50 Years Ago - December 10, 1964

• The Klickitat County Sheriff’s office was embarrassed Sunday night by the escape of two prisoners. The first, a visiting transfer to the reformatory at Monroe, was able to slip out the rear door during a religious service being conducted in the conference room adjacent to the kitchen quarters. The jailer was distracted, as the prisoner’s pretext of going to a lavatory. Instead he slipped into the kitchen, then out the back door. The other prisoner, who had been given trustee status, walked out the front door of the courthouse while performing janitorial work. Later he was apprehended by City Chief Don Kemp. Both were back in custody by Monday...
