Lady Cougars swarm over opponents for a 2-0 start, boys settle for split results

LEADING SCORER: Cody Carse, 45 led Lyle-Wishram scoring with 24 and 19 points in weekend games.

Lyle-Wishram girls opened the season with wins over Stevenson 61-34 and Arlington 51-39, employing a smothering press defense in both games. Maelynn Luke was all over the home court against the Lady Bulldogs, coming away with seven steals and leading the Cougars in scoring with 17 points. On Saturday, at Arlington, Luke had sevens across the board with seven points, seven rebounds, seven more steals and seven assists.

Friday's game against Stevenson started as a very physical affair. Both teams were in double penalty foul trouble with 2:46 left in the opening half. Much of the contact was the result of Lyle-Wishram's pressing defense and Stevenson's willingness to mix it up under the boar...
