Counterfeit bills passed in area businesses

 


Phony $100 bills have turned up in Goldendale and other parts of Klickitat County in the past two weeks.

One bar and one grocery store in Goldendale have each been hit with the counterfeit bills. A store in Roosevelt appears to have one as well.

None of the locations is speaking on the record about its experience presently, and no suspect has been identified or apprehended.

The Sentinel made contact Monday with the FBI about the bills and was referred to the Secret Service, which as a branch of the Treasury Department handles counterfeit money investigations. No response was obtained from the Secret Service by press time.
