Wilkins grabs top honors at Wapato meet

OUTSTANDING: Kyle Wilkins was named Outstanding Wrestler of the meet at Wapato after winning the 170 pound division in short order.

Forfeits bit the Timberwolves, early last week, leading to losses of 42-36 to Connell and 43-30 to Kiona-Benton, two of the SCAC wrestling powers over recent years. The fact that Goldendale wrestlers had the edge in the matches that were actually wrestled is very encouraging.

Against Connell, Goldendale won four and lost one match on the mat. Leroy Miller was the winner by pin at 145 pounds. Mark Briggs (152), Jesse Call (160) and Cameron Read (220) all won close decisions. Nic Foss (170) and Zane Cully (195) won by forfeit. Connell made their points on forfeit wins at 106, 113, 120, 126 and 138 pounds. Their single win on the mat was a pin over Demetrius McCoy in the second round at 182...
