ROLLIN' PAST HOUSES, FARMS, AND FIELDS: Joshua Ward is at the controls of the mighty Klickitat & Western train.

Once upon a time, Goldendale ran passenger trains to and from Portland, showing its guests the beautiful fall colors of the Gorge in September.

When prior sheriff and train enthusiast Ed Weddle and his wife Vivian moved to Goldendale in 1968, they had planned to take this train the following year, and enjoy the ride for themselves. To their misfortune, however, the train never came back.

This inspired Weddle to build his own model railroad down in his basement.
