Easy fixes for new Apple Health issues


Provisions in a change announced by Washington Health Care Authority (HCA) on Jan. 1 sent shock waves through Klickitat County. New Medicaid enrollees and anyone not already assigned to a managed health care plan under Apple Health, the announcement said, were now being covered by an insurer called Amerigroup.

The HCA made the change based on its consideration that Amerigroup had a sufficient provider network.

They were wrong.

The 3,000 or so county residents affected by the change were now faced with having to travel ridiculous distances for medical treatment. Those who sought to get out of the change by switching back to fee-for-service status were met with the challenge of navigating p...
