Smith murder trial delayed to next year


The Associated Press (AP) reported Saturday that the trial of a Goldendale woman charged with drugging and killing her two-year-old daughter at an Oregon coastal resort has been put off a year.

Jessica Smith’s trial had been scheduled to begin in July. It has been rescheduled for June 2016, AP reports, allowing expected testimony from the 13-year-old surviving daughter.

AP reports that Judge Cindee Matyas made the decision Thursday. The trial is expected to last about three weeks.

In previous proceedings, Smith pleaded not guilty to one murder charge and another charge of attempted murder in the injury of her second daughter.
