Homecoming royalty crowned; crab feed coming soon

Glenwood News

Glenwood School’s Spirit Week wound up on Jan. 30 with the coed basketball team taking on Yakama Tribal boys for the homecoming game. After a hard-fought contest, the visitors ended up victorious. Reyauna Guzman and Greg Dechand were crowned as the homecoming queen and king. School secretary Toni Troh also reported that the seventh graders won Spirit Week when they accumulated the most points for dress up days and other activities held throughout the week.

The GHS coed basketball team will play the Dufur boys’ JV team on Feb. 4; and look forward to a repeat of their defeat of Dufur earlier in the season. Plan to cheer on our team at the game that will begin in the GHS gym at 6 p.m. Junior high basketball players Nick Palmer and Kinley Troh are moving up to assist the high school coed team for the balance of the season as well.

Congratulations to the junior high girls’ basketball team! The team, under Coach Bo Arnold’s direction, ended up undefeated in their 2014/2015 season. Team members included Bella Couch, Brooklyn Emerson, Bailey Gimlin, Kaitlyn Masden, Lilly Molyneux, Emma Odom, Nahaleigh Schuster, Kinley Troh and Crysta Warren and Manager Joslyn Arnold. Coach Arnold stated that “Coaching this group of young ladies was an honor this year. Day in and day out they played hard and played for each other. I am very proud of the strides they made this season!”

Doug Daniels reported another month that was a bit short on moisture when we received only 4.30 inches of rain in January. The 20-year high in Glenwood was in 2003 when 11.9 inches fell. The low of 1.03 inches was in 2013; and the 20-year average for January is 5.43 inches. Hopefully the forecasts of a wet, wet week ahead will help us catch up a bit on our precipitation deficit!

‘Tis the season for crab feeds; and Glenwood High School is planning theirs for Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Cost for a crab dinner is $25 or chef salad $8. Please contact the school at 364-3438 by Friday, Feb. 6 to make your reservations. Proceeds from the crab feed help fund senior educational trips.

Feb. 6: High school basketball at Sunnyside Christian at 6 p.m.

Feb. 9: High school basketball vs Klickitat at Glenwood 6 p.m.
