Agency asks for savings to be directed to assist aging and disabled

WINNING HAND: Lanae Johnson deals the cards on behalf of the Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington. The agencies are asking legislators to use savings in Medicaid First Choice to invest in community based programs.

The representatives of the Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington are dealing our legislators the cards.

These cards-each with the signature of a supporter-represent those who are investing in the future along with those who are actively assisting the elderly. With these cards and enough signatures, southwest Washington will be prepared for the upcoming "age wave."

"Fifty-six percent of the voting populous are 60 and older. There's a bit of an 'age wave' that's going to happen here, and we need to look forward to finding a way to take care of their needs in the future," says Lanae Johnson.
