Pirates lose close game to Eagles, miss State playoff opportunity

TAKING IT TO THE HOOP: Bickleton's Nathan Powers takes it inside for two against the Eagles.

Yakama Nation out-scored Bickleton 16-6 over the final three minutes of their District 5 playoff game, taking back the lead and defeating the Pirates 66-58 to earn a berth in the Regional tournament. It was a well-played game on both sides of the ball with Bickleton finishing with 12 turnovers and the Eagles with just nine. In the end, it was the hot shooting beyond the three-point line that gave the Eagles the win.

Bickleton used a height advantage to force a classic battle of their inside game versus Yakama Nation's outside game. It was pretty much a draw through the first half. Joseph Sanchey got hot and hit three long bombs in a row and the Eagles led 34-31 at the half. Nathan Powers...
