SECURING A MEDAL: Bryce Wilkins locks up both of Hoquiam's Tahj Malone's arms, a prelude to a pin. The first round pin gave Wilkins a shot at third place and guaranteed sixth at Mat Classic.

Bryce Wilkins became the third Wilkins to win a medal at the State wrestling championship Mat Classic, last weekend, taking sixth place in the 170 pound division. Wilkins was the only one of Goldendale's four wrestlers to medal at the meet, but all four had some success.

Goldendale sent Ruben Finn and Wilkins in the 170 pound division, Zane Cully at 182 pounds and Cameron Read at 195 pounds. Finn and Read each had to wrestle a number one seeded wrestler in their first match and both lost, as did Wilkins and Cully. All four bounced back in style by winning their second match by pin. They each needed another win to make it to the medal round, but only Wilkins got by the next opponent.
