When did weathermen take control of our daily lives?

 


When people have nothing to say, they generally talk about the weather. It is better than just staring at one another or ignoring people you meet. But, am I alone in the feeling that there is just too darn much weather in television newscasts?

When I lived in Nebraska, it was important to listen to weather forecasts. Storms could crop up quite suddenly throughout the summer and they were often quite dangerous. Rain in the Great Plains doesn't fall like it does in the Pacific Northwest. It generally is accompanied by thunderstorms with lightning, hail, high winds and the occasional tornado and pounding rain up to 2 inches in an hour.
