Bickleton, Lyle-Wishram tops in jamboree pole vault pits

WINNING START TO HS TRACK: Bickleton's Kira Harvey, middle, had a good first day of high school track on Saturday. Harvey began by winning the pole vault and was first in her heat of the 55 meter hurdles, ninth overall.

Kira Harvey, a freshman at Bickleton, came away with the only first place finish among Klickitat County teams at the first track and field meet of the year, the Eisenhower Jamboree. Harvey and Lyle-Wishram's Alex Cloud were the only girls to clear a height in the pole vault with Harvey winning at 7-feet, 9-inches. Cloud was second at 7-feet even.

Aside from winning an event, the outstanding performance came from Klickitat's Easton Atchley. Atchley, a freshman, made a big splash in his first high school meet, finishing fifth among 49 jumpers in the long jump with a leap of 18-7.5.
