Quincy's big adventure

Boot Camp: The 2K steeplechase is more of an obstacle course than a track event. After landing in the deep end on lap one, Lyle-Wishram's Quincy McConville tried a different strategy.

Quincy McConville volunteered for the steeplechase at Eisenhower Jamboree, Saturday. The Cougar freshman learned a great deal about the event while setting a school record...only time on the books.

McConville had about a 40 meter lead when he got to the water hazard. He learned that the water is cold. McConville slowed his pace and tried a different attack on the water hazard which didn't end any better.

He crawled out of the pit and soldiered on with a big smile. By the fifth and final lap, McConville had it figured out. He hit the hurdle in stride and cleared most of the water with a small splash. McConville turned it on down the home stretch with another good hurdle and an 18th place...
