50 Years Ago - March 18, 1965

• Goldendale was visited with heavy gusts of wind from the north and east last Thursday afternoon. Dark clouds accompanied the wind. Dust clouds were raised by the gusts, paper and trash were sent swirling, roof materials were loosened and detached, and power poles were blown over. Emmet Clouse, PUD manager, said no previous damage to lines from a north wind had ever been recorded. An airplane hanger on the Bill Cunningham ranch was neatly flipped on its back by wind funneling into its open side. A large old shed at the Layman Lumber Companies old mill site slumped to the south in a confused pile of boards. Corrugated metal roofing torn off the roof...
