Cougars shake off rough start to split with White Swan in opening games at Lyle

THE PURPOSE OF SPRING: Spring means baseball, and it was a great day for ball games in the Gorge on Saturday. The Lyle-Wishram-Klickitat Cougars, in blue, split a double-header with White Swan.

Lyle-Wishram-Klickitat bounced back from a 17-3 beating in five innings at the hands of White Swan to earn the split in a 9-5 nightcap, Saturday. Two blow-up innings accounted for 15 White Swan runs. Aside from those innings, pitching dominated hitting and Coach Joe Bales was happy with the split.

If the first inning was any indication, some at Lyle-Wishram-Klickitat might have been ready to call it a season when they got hammered for six runs off three hits, a couple of hit batters, an error and a walk.
