Bad week to be a Cougar as Lady Timberwolves log four game sweep

PERFECT DELIVERY: Goldendale's Sierra Lamping mowed down 15 straight batters for a perfect, five-inning 18-0 win over Lyle-Wishram, Friday at Dallesport.

Sierra Lamping was perfect on Friday in Dallesport. The Goldendale softball pitcher ripped through the Lyle-Wishram batting order during a five-inning game for an 18-0 win. Lamping faced the minimum of 15 batters with no hits, no walks, no errors and nine strike-outs; the last one went down looking. It was the third straight win of the week for the Lady Timberwolves who finished the week with sweeps over the White Swan Cougars and the Lyle-Wishram Cougars.

Goldendale had plenty of offensive support for Lamping, scoring four runs in the first inning, sending eight batters to the plate for six hits, including a double by Shania Henderson. Kirstin Twohy doubled in the second inning, driving in two of her five RBI for the game. The third inning was led off with a triple by Bailee Johnson who was the first of seven runners to score in the inning.

Game two was in stark contrast to the opener with Lyle-Wishram pounding out 14 hits and 18 runs of their own. But, Goldendale was more efficient, scoring 23 runs off 12 hits.

The Cougars led 18-16 in the top of the sixth inning, as the sun began to set on the unlit field. Goldendale scored seven runs in the top of the seventh and had to accelerate the end of their half of the inning to be sure to get the sixth inning counted. Lyle-Wishram was shut out by Lamping in the bottom of the sixth and the game was called due to darkness for a 23-18 win, completing the sweep. Twohy drove in six runs in game two for a total of 11 RBI in the two games.

The sweep was the second of the week for Goldendale who won a pair over White Swan on Tuesday 9-3 and 18-6. Lamping was the winner of both games. Lamping had a combined 12 strike outs and five walks in 13 innings of work.

The wins went a long way to boost the Lady Timberwolves who lost a pair of 10 run games the previous week. Coach Chris Barthlow noted that the girls were a bit anxious at the plate early in game one at White Swan. "We were swinging at pitches in the first game that were not good, which resulted in 10 strike outs and only four walks," said Barthlow. That was turned around to just one strike out and eight walks in game two.

Twohy was nearly perfect at the plate with a combined 8-9, including a triple, three stolen bases and five RBI. Twohy has hit for the cycle over the last three series, including a home run at Royal.

Others with good days at the plate were Stephanie Basilan, 5-10 with a double, Kiera Henderson 3-5 with two RBI in game two, Kailey Garrigus, 2-5 with a double and two RBI in game one and Sabrina Payne who was 2-3 with an RBI in the night cap. In addition to pitching five shutout innings in game two, Lamping hit for a double and a triple for two RBI to help her cause.

Goldendale will host Kittitas in a non-league double-header on April 4. First pitch is at 11 am. Lyle-Wishram hosts The Dalles JV for a single game on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Dallesport.
