Politics send eye care trip to Cambodia off to a rocky start

On March 26, Dr. Jim Odgen, of Goldendale flew out of Seattle on a service mission to Cambodia. The following report is the first in a series, written by Dr. Ogden while on his mission to provide eye care to needy people.


We had a good drive to Seattle Tuesday afternoon (March 24), and it was certainly nice to be able to use Chris and Vida Facio’s truck to haul the trunks. All of them fit and the tarp stayed put, which was good since we had to drive through some rain between Hood River and Portland.

We met Rod and Penny Clemmer, Dr. and Mrs. Steve Smith and Dr. and Mrs. David Pitkethly at the Denny’s Restaurant across Highway 99 from the airport and had supper together. Rod and Penny got in with us when we left and took the vehicles to their place after we unloaded everything at the airport. Dr. and Mrs. Smith brought Rod and Penny in their car. Dr. Pitkethly is a retired neurosurgeon from Seattle area...
