Car crash sends two to area hospitals

Two passengers in this Kia were sent to area hospitals when it struck a deer on SR 14.

UPDATE: The Sentinel has been informed that Bazzel is in stable condition (Friday, April 10).

A 40-year-old Goldendale man and a seven-year-old girl were sent to area hospitals Thursday morning when their 2006 Kia Optima hit a deer on SR 14 near Maryhill Museum.

At about 9:50 a.m. Ronald Bazzel Jr. was driving westbound on SR 14 when a deer suddenly bounded into the roadway. The car struck the deer, then left the road to the right. It struck a dirt and gravel embankment and came to rest in the westbound lane.

The crash bashed in the front of the car, leaving the two occupants trapped for a time.
