Local fire devastation victim thanks her heroes

RESCUED: Sharon McGaughy, was rescued from a fire last year by Rod Knopes, left and Ron Bazzel, right. The Rural 7 firemen found McGaughy in her home as it began to ignite from a fire that spread from a neighbor's property.

It is a well-known fact that Goldendale and its surrounding areas are very dry and easily susceptible to fires, especially during the hot summer season. With a lack of rain fall and moist air, fires can start with the simple combination of heat from the sun and a small shard of glass. Unfortunately, these blazing flames have taken thousands of acres of property and numerous homes belonging to local residents. It is up to our firefighters to preserve as much land and as many structures as possible.
