Local woman off to the Boston Marathon


Despite the horrendous bombing that occurred at the Boston Marathon nearly two years ago, many people are still working toward competing in this world-famous marathon. One contestant who has been training for a year and will be running on this historic track is a life-long resident of Goldendale.

“I didn’t know that running was my thing,” says Jenny Balcomb. “I used to be a smoker and I quit smoking eight years ago and started running. From there I got more comfortable with it and ran a bit longer each time I went out and eventually decided that I’m going to run a marathon.”

Balcomb became interested in running the Boston Marathon solely because of the challenges it presents....
