Parking laws to be proactively enforced

 


At Monday night’s Goldendale city council meeting, Councilman Len Crawford asked a simple question: why have a law if it’s not going to be enforced?

He was talking about the city’s parking ordinances—the ones that are routinely flaunted in areas all across the city.

Police Chief Johnson told the council that for some time now parking laws were enforced only reactively. “They’re complaint driven,” he said. “We enforce only when there’s a complaint.”

“It seems to me that if the law is there, it should be enforced,” Crawford said. “There’s a car supposedly for sale parked on Main Street with a flat tire that’s been there a long time, for example. There are lots...
