Bob Maling


Leland R. (Robert) Maling, 84, passed away March 21, 2015.

He was born March 31, 1930, in Sunnyside, WA, the second of four children, to Leland A and Pauline (Renke) Maling. Bob grew up in Sunnyside, working on the family asparagus ranch. He went to school in Sunnyside; completing his diploma at night school. At age 18, Bob started working at Hanford in the Tri Cities, where he worked on and off for about 20 years.

Bob married Marjorie Joan Ragsdale in Sunnyside on April 22, 1948. The couple had one son, Ronald, born in 1949. Ronald passed away in 1975.

Bob always wanted to run a tavern, so in 1993, Bob and Marjorie purchased the Top Hat Tavern in Goldendale. They owned the tavern for 20 years.

Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting, woodworking, boating and water-skiing. He was an active member of the Masons in Sunnyside.

His parents and son, Ronald Leland Maling preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of The Dalles; siblings, Arlene Watts of Richland; Barbara Funk of Federal Way and James Maling of The Dalles, and one nephew, Michael Watts of Pasco.

No service was held. Inurnment was in Sunnyside.
