50 Years Ago - May 13, 1965

Goldendale after a period of 4 1/2 months without S. P. &. S. service, was back on the railroad with arrival of the first train about noon last Saturday. The first train, gingerly testing out the track laid on new roadbed up the Swale Creek Canyon, brought in 14 empty box cars for grain shipment, and took out two loaded cars of lumber. Since Monday and Tuesday 26 cars of wheat were moved out of the Goldendale and Centerville elevators and two cars of lumber a day have been shipped. Railroad officials have been over the road bed, riding the trains, seeing that everything is in good order and have pronounced the road “good as ever” and hungry for business...
