City looks at using Simcoe building for indoor storage unit business


In a special city council meeting Monday, the City of Goldendale chose to pass on a proposed grant to renovate the Simcoe building and instead investigate the possibility of using it for an indoor climate-controlled storage unit business.

The building was formerly a nursing home on Simcoe Ave. near the corner of Columbus Ave. and has been empty while the city, to which the building was given, tried to decide what to do with it.

The key issue for any future use of the building is asbestos, used throughout the structure when it was built and now considered highly dangerous. To renovate the building for new usage—or even just to raze the building to the ground and start from scratch with a...
