Rural 7 sets new fundraising record

Rural 7 raised $20,645 at this year's auction and yard sale last week, representing a new record for its fire victims' fund.

One bucket truck alone sold for $8,900. A tinder sold for $4,100. The yard sale portion brought in around $3,000.

"We had great support," said organizer Leo Spencer. "The city blocked off the street for us, which helped a lot. This community really comes together to help good causes."

The auction's funds go toward fire victims support, but in addition, Spencer said, the funds go to assist other fire-related charitable needs.

"Our pot is up to about $50,000," he said. "We'll wait until after this year's fire season to see how to use that. In the meantime, we did send $1,000 to West, Texas, where some firefighters were killed last year. There's always a need somewhere."
