Goldendale participates in solar system study


As they embark on what might be known as the research project of the decade, representatives of schools and communities from Mexico to Canada are collaborating to create what is formally known as RECON (Research and Education Collaborative Occultation Network). RECON is led by planetary scientists John Keller from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif. and Marc Buie of the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colo.

“The goal of RECON is to determine the sizes, densities and other characteristics of newly discovered Kuiper Belt Objects orbiting the sun beyond Neptune,” says Buie.

The Washington State RECON network’s southernmost site is Goldendale.
