County planning commission to hold public hearing on pot businesses

The Klickitat County Planning Commission holds a public hearing Monday, June 15, to hear comment on recreational marijuana businesses in the county. The meeting takes place in the Commissioners Meeting Room at 7 p.m.

According to the county’s public notice on the meeting, the hearing is to listen to public comment on an “amendment to county zoning regulations to address the siting of new and/or expansion of marijuana facilities associated with I-502, relating to the production, processing, and retail sale of recreational marijuana and all recreational marijuana-derived products in all zoning districts.”

The commission could ultimately make a recommendation on the subject, and it has four options to choose from. They include prohibition (not affecting already existing pot businesses); authorization by conditional use permit; authorization as agricultural/farm use and typical retail sales; and/or clarification of the existing permit structure. Alternatively, the commission could also recommend continuing the issue to a later date.

Written testimony from the public can be sent in advance of or at the meeting. Commentary may be sent to the Planning Department up to 5 p.m. the day of the hearing to the following: or Klickitat County Planning Department, 228 W. Main Street, Goldendale, WA, 98620.

Anyone wanting to see drafts of possible approaches to the marijuana options may review them at the Klickitat County Planning Department, 228 W. Main Street, Goldendale.
