Keep pets cool


To the Editor:

Hooray! Warm weather is finally here! However, warmer temperatures can bring dangers. For example, did you know that if the temperature is 85 degrees, the inside of your car heats up to 100 degrees after 7 to 10 minutes and 120 degrees in 30 minutes? On a 90-degree day, the inside of a car can reach 160 degrees in just 10 minutes. Your pet can suffer from brain damage or even death in just 15 minutes inside of a hot car.

Earlier this year, the Washington Senate passed a bill (SSB5501) that makes it an offense to leave a dog locked in a hot (or cold) car. In addition to being fined, a person committing this offense may even be charged with animal cruelty, which is a felony....
