Jerry Bean

Gerald "Jerry" Ellis Bean passed away peacefully at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital on June 2nd, 2015.

Jerry was born to George and Dorothy (Woods) Bean on Feb. 20, 1945 in Goldendale, WA. He graduated from Bickleton High School in 1963, while living with Frank and Joy Naught and helping on their farm. After graduating, he logged for Burt Wilkins before being drafted to serve his country in Vietnam. There he formed some long lasting friendships and kept in touch with his Army buddies the rest of his life.

Upon returning from Vietnam, he lived in Yakima where he went to work galloping horses at the Yakima Meadows Race Track. After marrying the love of his life, Patty Hartz, together they continued to live in Yakima and follow the racing circuit where he spent summers working as an outrider for the Long Acres Racetrack in Seattle. Later Jerry and Patty returned to Goldendale and raised their five children. He logged for various logging companies in the area along with jobs for the WICO Power line Company, eventually working for the Klickitat County Road Dept. several years until retirement.

Jerry loved horse racing and enjoyed several co-ownerships of various race horses over the years. He also cherished time spent at the Bean Ranch hunting, 4-wheeling, and camping out with family and friends. One cause close to his heart was organizing and hosting the annual Box Canyon Shoot at his ranch as a fundraiser for the American Legion, an organization of which he was a member and a place he dearly loved.

Jerry leaves behind his wife Patty of Goldendale, daughters Tara Wilkins of Kirkland, Tana Bean of Goldendale, Lisa O'Leary/Kirt of Centerville, Lani Molnar/Don of Centerville, and his son J.C. Bean/Anna of Goldendale, sister Donna Walker of Endicott, WA., and Aunt Bonnie (Woods) Dayton, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved cousins. He aslo leaves behind twelve grand-kids: Ashley, Keir, Zack, Kinley, Kailyn, Dane, Ike, Lexi, Maci, Ty, Jorgia, and Jackie, as well as three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bob and Eddie Bean, and sister Rosetta Vest. Donations can be made to our Goldendale American Legion Post in memory of Jerry Bean.
