20 Year volunteer, Weddle recognized by GPS

Honored: GPS students honor Vivian Weddle for her 20 years of volunteering to help students read.

Vivian Weddle was honored recently for her service to Goldendale students.

"Mrs. Weddle, now 87 years old, has volunteered at GPS for 20 years as a HOSTS Mentor four afternoons a week. And before that she volunteered 14 years at Head Start. Her husband made a career in the Navy so they moved often, and never had time for her to make a career, so she decided to make volunteering her 'career'. And what better way than helping children learn to read?

Goldendale Primary School staff decided to create her an honorary reading teacher certificate to thank her for her service, which was presented to her in a school assembly. She also received roses handed to her by some of her past and present...
