Community gathers for July 4 celebrations

Children and adults have been busy at the Pioneer Memorial Community Church this week as Vacation Bible School took place from June 28 through July 2. This year’s VBS had a Mt. Everest theme “Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power.”

Belated birthday wishes to Mrs. Anita Wellenbrock. Family and friends helped Nita celebrate a note-worthy birthday on Saturday. Wishing Nita many happy birthdays to come!

Speaking of note-worthy birthdays…America will be celebrating a 239th birthday on July 4! The Pioneer Memorial Community Church is planning and hosting an Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration in recognition of America’s birthday! Beginning at 8 a.m. a pancake fundraiser to help the Youth Group raise funds for summer camp will be held at the church. Following breakfast at 10 a.m. a community softball game will take place at the school. Softball players of all skill levels are urged to participate in the game! At 1 p.m. a pig roast/BBQ along with kids’ games will take place in the park next to the Grange. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share for the potluck. The Rebecca De La Torre Band will provide music for a 2 p.m. concert in the park as well. Community members are invited to participate in this Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration. Please contact the church at 364-3571 if you have questions about the events.

Promociones Charo will be producing a Mexican Rodeo at the Glenwood Rodeo Grounds beginning at 2 p.m. on July 4 as well. Bull riding, eating and dancing are part of their celebration. The public is invited; and admission is $30.

Whatever you do for the Fourth of July – have fun and be safe. Remember there is a burn ban in Klickitat County.

Coming events:

July 18: Youth Group car wash and bake sale at Pioneer Memorial Community Church

Mexican Rodeo at the Glenwood Rodeo Grounds

July 18-19: All School Reunion
