Heat takes toll on seniors

MAYBE NOT SO BAD: The often reliable Farmers Almanac says most of the summer of 2015 will be fairly pleasant after the initial shock of early heat. That's as opposed to the mid-Atlantic, which in the map is shown as "broiling."

Nobody likes extreme and prolonged heat, but such conditions can be very dangerous and potentially deadly for seniors.

According to the National Weather Service, heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities each year and even more heat-related illnesses (www.nws.noaa. gov/os/heat/index.shtml).
