From the best seat in the house


I’m getting frustrated with the Seattle Mariners. I think I am ready for football. Monday night was their 35th one-run game of the year. The announcers seemed to think that was a bad thing, but the fact is Seattle is 18-17 in those games and just 24-34 in the rest of their games.

Monday’s game was emblematic of the season. Robinson Cano hits another home run, finally on a hot streak, but Mark Lowe, one of the stalwarts of the bull pen gives up an eighth inning home run for the loss. We can’t be too hard on Lowe, it was the first run he has given up since June 14.

And that’s the problem. The roster is good, but just as soon as one guy gets hot, another guy goes cold.
