• Work on a new 4.3 mile section of modern highway to replace several miles of narrow, twisting and hilly road between Rowland Lake and Lyle will begin later this summer, according to Senator Al Henry. The new alignment will be prepared to accommodate two eleven foot lanes with eight foot shoulders. The grading project, estimated to cost from one million to one and a fourth million, is scheduled to be completed this year and ready for paving next spring. The new section will run at river level parallel to the Columbia River and the tracks of the S. P. & S. Railway. When the new section is completed, the old highway will revert to Klickitat County.
