Warm water stress behind fish deaths

NO FLOW: The Little Klickitat River was reduced to a series of stagnating pools in Goldendale this week.

"Fish are dying in the Wind River, White Salmon River, Little White Salmon River and the Deschutes River," says Dr. Patrick Connolly, lead research fish biologist for the USGS at their Columbia River Research Laboratory, at Cook. Connolly says it is mostly sockeye salmon that have been dying and he believes it is due to disease brought on by the stress of swimming in warm water.

It is no secret that the rivers are at a lower than normal flow throughout Washington State. But, it is not the first time low flows have occurred at this time of year.
