75 Years Ago - July 29, 1965

James “Jim” Shelton, retired after 40 years as custodian of the “old” high school on Academy Street, celebrated his 88th birthday Sunday, July 25. After a birthday dinner completed with strains of “Happy Birthday” and cake at the Shah, the family returned home for more cake and homemade ice cream with the Hudson’s of Goldendale. Note: Shelton’s daughter Cleo, a school teacher, and married Marion Hudson in1932. In 1949, Goldendale honored Jim by secretly collecting donations to send Mr. and Mrs. Shelton to the World Series which was held in the Yankee stadium. Playing in the series was Joe DiMaggio for the Yanks and Jackie Robinson for Brook...
