Chief of police resigns


Goldendale Police Chief Rick Johnson has given his notice and will leave office Aug. 7.

Johnson made the announcement citing a desire to return to Montana, where he began his career in law enforcement. Johnson will become the Chief of Police in Deer Lodge, Mont. The city is a ranching community similar in size to Goldendale.

Johnson says his daughter, Randi will attend school in Bozeman and expressed the desire to live in Montana. Johnson and his wife, Vanessa, also want to retire in Montana. The move will put Johnson within reasonable driving distance from Bozeman and gives him the opportunity to re-establish a pension before he retires.
