Farmers' Market is 10 years old

BIRTHDAY FOR THE MARKET: Earlene Sullivan cuts a birthday cake celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Goldendale Farmers' Market Saturday morning. She and her late husband, Ron, started the event, then called the Saturday Market, in 2006.

Here's good news: it was really crowded at the Farmers' Market Saturday morning. The place was packed.

Attendance has been picking up anyway, but this was a big occasion: the 10th anniversary of the Farmers' Market.

The appreciative crowd milled around tables with goodies ranging from home-grow n lettuce (acclaimed by a purchaser as "the best ever") and berries and preserves and breads and cookies to handicrafts such as wooden birds' nests and toys.

An entrepreneurial teen trolled the crowd offering cookies. When one was taken, he volunteered, "They're only two for a dollar," and many a taker handed over a one for the second cookie.
